Infrastructure Procurement Director

About the role

The Infrastructure Procurement Director will lead NZTA’s procurement function for one of New Zealand’s largest transport infrastructure investment programmes. Based in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch, you will shape strategic sourcing, supplier management and commercial delivery across a $10B+ capital portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Set direction for strategic procurement, sourcing and supplier management across infrastructure projects and programmes.
• Develop and implement portfolio, programme and project‑level procurement strategies to improve timeliness, delivery confidence and value for money.
• Lead a sizeable team and collaborate with senior leaders, central agencies, suppliers and industry partners.
• Strengthen procurement capability, supplier intelligence and market engagement within the transport sector.
• Ensure investment proposals are commercially sound, well planned and aligned with government expectations.

Required profile

• Extensive experience with current procurement best practice in New Zealand and internationally.
• Proven infrastructure sector experience and strong understanding of the infrastructure planning, procurement and delivery lifecycle.
• Demonstrated procurement leadership in commercially complex environments, preferably within transport infrastructure.
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify and navigate strategic commercial opportunities.
• Deep knowledge of government procurement and assurance requirements, including financial processes, budgeting and contract management.
• Excellent communication, relationship‑building and influencing skills across internal and external stakeholders.
• Commitment to engaging with Te Ao Māori, supporting NZTA’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and fostering an inclusive workplace.
