Human Resources Policy Specialist

About the role

The Human Resources Policy Specialist will join the HR team of the Social Work Regulator Board (SWRB) on an 18‑month fixed‑term contract. Working from central Wellington in a flexible hybrid model, you will translate HR best practice into practical tools, guidance and processes that support the organisation’s strategy and its Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the implementation and embedding of a new HR Information System (HRIS).
• Refresh people policies, employment documentation and develop clear frameworks for delegation, capability and remuneration.
• Translate HR policy into easy‑to‑use tools and processes across the organisation.
• Improve consistency, reduce risk and build confidence in people management.
• Support organisational strategy and the application of He Arapaki, SWRB’s Māori Development Framework.

Required profile

• Proven experience in HR policy development and implementation.
• Understanding of New Zealand employment legislation and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations.
• Ability to work at the intersection of policy, systems and day‑to‑day practice.
• Strong collaborative and communication skills within a values‑driven environment.
