HR Advisor

About the role

As an HR Advisor you will work alongside HR Business Partners to provide operational HR support across the council. You will partner with leaders to deliver practical HR advice, contribute to organisational initiatives and help ensure people practices are consistent, people‑centred and aligned with New Zealand employment legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day HR advice and support throughout the employee lifecycle.
• Assist leaders with recruitment, performance management, remuneration and general employment matters.
• Support organisational change initiatives and HR projects.
• Contribute to People & Capability programmes such as engagement surveys and remuneration reviews.
• Review and improve HR policies, processes and systems with a continuous‑improvement mindset.
• Build strong, trusted relationships with leaders and colleagues across the council.

Required profile

• Collaborative mindset with ownership of work and ability to provide practical HR advice in a fast‑paced environment.
• Curiosity and adaptability to changing business needs.
• Experience in a generalist HR role.
• Sound understanding of New Zealand employment legislation and HR best practice.
• Strong relationship‑building, communication, judgement, discretion and professionalism.
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Commitment to continuous improvement.
