HR Adviser

About the role

The University of Otago is seeking an experienced HR Adviser to join its collaborative Human Resources Division. Working closely with the Divisional HR Manager, you will provide independent, pragmatic HR solutions to a defined client portfolio across the Health Sciences Division.

Key responsibilities

• Offer HR technical guidance on change management, dispute resolution, personal grievances, recruitment and selection, conduct and capability matters.
• Support training and development initiatives and provide health and safety advice.
• Interpret and implement HR policies, procedures and best practice across the division.
• Collaborate with the HR Advisory team and wider HR Division to ensure consistent service delivery.

Required profile

• Several years of recent experience in a generalist HR role.
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and its practical application.
• Commitment to culturally safe practice, with understanding of Te Ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Pasifika values.
• Effective communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Alignment with the university’s values of respect, integrity, curiosity and community.
• A tertiary qualification in a relevant field is desirable.

• Permanent full‑time position (37.5 hours per week) within the Health Sciences Division.
• Salary range NZ$96,587 – NZ$114,474 per annum.
