Head of School – Community and Public Health

About the role

The School of Community and Public Health at Auckland University of Technology is seeking a senior academic leader to head the School. Reporting to the Dean, the Head will provide strategic, academic and people leadership for a multidisciplinary unit of more than 60 staff and over 690 EFTS students.

Key responsibilities

• Shape and implement the School’s academic strategy, culture and faculty development as a core member of the Dean’s leadership team.
• Oversee teaching, research and partnership activities that deliver real‑world health impact locally and internationally.
• Manage operational and financial performance, ensuring compliance with university policies.
• Lead recruitment, retention and professional development of academic and professional staff.
• Represent the School externally with government, industry, Māori and Pacific health partners.

Required profile

• Established academic with a strong record in public health, Māori health, Pacific health or related fields.
• Demonstrated senior leadership experience in a university or research institute.
• Visionary thinker with a commitment to health equity and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
