Head of Communications and Engagement

About the role

The Head of Communications and Engagement will lead strategic communications and reputation management for Wellington Water during a period of significant sector transformation. Reporting to the Chief Executive, this senior leader will shape internal and external messaging, advise the executive team, and position the organisation as the professional water services provider for the Wellington region.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver the organisation’s internal and external communications and engagement strategy.
• Provide strategic communications and reputation management advice to executive and governance leaders.
• Identify, assess and manage emerging reputational risks and issues.
• Oversee corporate communications, media relations, digital channels, and stakeholder and community engagement activities.
• Build, lead and mentor a high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary Communications and Engagement team.

Required profile

• Significant senior‑level experience in strategic communications and engagement.
• Proven leadership capability with a track record of building high‑performing teams.
• Strong expertise in issues, crisis and emergency communications management.
• Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills.
• Resilient leader comfortable working in complex, ambiguous and politically sensitive environments.
