Head of Commercial – New Zealand

About the role

The Apex Group is seeking a senior commercial leader to steer revenue growth in New Zealand. Reporting to the regional leadership team, you will own the commercial strategy, drive new‑business acquisition, expand existing client relationships and ensure strong client retention.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a commercial growth strategy that aligns with market opportunities and business objectives.
• Lead the end‑to‑end new‑business process, from origination through proposal development to conversion.
• Embed commercial excellence through pipeline governance, account planning, forecasting, performance reviews and continuous process improvement.
• Partner with operational, product, client‑service and senior leadership teams to align priorities, manage risks and deliver successful outcomes.
• Build, coach and retain a high‑performing commercial team, overseeing performance management and succession planning.
• Establish a scalable commercial operating model with strong governance, accountability and data‑driven execution.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in financial services, with senior roles in commercial, sales, business development or client leadership.
• Proven track record of delivering new‑business acquisition, client growth and retention.
• Strong strategic capability, including sales‑strategy development, market analysis and identification of commercial opportunities.
• Demonstrated ability to lead high‑performing teams and embed robust sales‑management disciplines.
