Hauora Connector – Student Wellbeing Support

About the role

The Hauora Connector joins the Student Wellbeing Hub at the University of Otago to provide a visible, approachable point of connection for students. The role focuses on helping students navigate university systems, promoting mental and physical health, and linking them to appropriate support services.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a recognisable liaison for students, assisting them in understanding and using university processes.
• Identify early signs of concern, advocate on behalf of students, and coordinate referrals to specialised services.
• Market and promote the Hauora Connector service to ensure visibility and accessibility for students and their whānau.
• Provide culturally responsive pastoral support, especially for rainbow (LGBTQ+) students, addressing unique challenges and barriers.
• Collaborate with Student Services, health, disability, and community partners to deliver integrated support.

Required profile

• Experience working with diverse communities in Aotearoa and a tertiary qualification in a relevant field.
• Proven background supporting young adults in tertiary education and familiarity with university systems.
• Demonstrated experience in wellbeing, pastoral care, advocacy, or community support within rainbow communities.
• Strong interest in engaging with individuals from varied cultures, faiths, languages, and life experiences.
• Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries while offering support.
