Hardscapes Gardener – School Campus Maintenance

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Hardscapes Gardener to join the Grounds team at Diocesan School for Girls. Reporting to the Grounds Manager, you will create and maintain the built elements of our outdoor environment, ensuring they are safe, functional and aesthetically pleasing for generations of students.

Key responsibilities

• Construct, install and maintain patios, walkways, retaining walls, decking, pergolas, fencing and outdoor furniture.
• Assist with soft‑scape tasks such as garden‑bed preparation, planting and irrigation system installation.
• Read and interpret construction plans and site drawings.
• Operate a range of landscaping tools and machinery, including excavators, compactors and concrete mixers.
• Excavate, level and lay paving for new pathways; repair existing structures; prepare the campus for major school events.
• Ensure all work areas are left tidy and safe.

Required profile

• Solid experience in landscaping, hardscaping, construction or grounds maintenance.
• Relevant horticulture qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience.
• Physically fit and able to perform manual outdoor work.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Full driver’s licence desirable.
• Commitment to safe work practices and a tidy work environment.
