Group Legal Counsel – Senior In‑House Lawyer

About the role

Re‑Leased is looking for a senior Group Legal Counsel to own all legal matters across its global property‑tech group. Reporting to the executive team, you will shape the in‑house legal function using modern AI‑augmented tools while supporting rapid growth in New Zealand, the UK, the US, Canada and Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Lead commercial contracting and negotiation, including MSAs, partner agreements, channel deals, enterprise customer contracts, vendor agreements and NDAs.
• Maintain contract compliance, manage disputes and respond to breaches across the customer base.
• Develop and maintain group templates, playbooks and self‑serve legal resources; use AI tools such as Claude and Spellbook for drafting, research, summarisation and first‑pass contract review.
• Manage external counsel relationships in multiple jurisdictions and ensure corporate compliance, regulatory filings and governance documentation for all subsidiaries.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal and operational risks, oversee insurance matters and coordinate litigation defence, particularly in the United States.
• Oversee office lease negotiations aligned with global property strategy.
• Provide strategic legal advice to the CFO, executive team and Board on a range of matters.

Required profile

• 5+ years post‑qualification experience, preferably from a top‑tier law firm or in‑house legal team.
• Demonstrated expertise in commercial contracts, corporate governance and litigation management.
• Experience working with global subsidiaries and external counsel across NZ, UK, US, Canada and Australia.
• Strong commercial judgement and ability to operate autonomously in a lean legal function.
