Ground Systems Engineer I/II - Mechanical

About the role

Rocket Lab is seeking a Ground Systems Engineer (I/II) focused on mechanical design to support its Electron and upcoming Neutron launch vehicles. The role offers hands‑on work with real hardware, launch pads and mission‑critical infrastructure, providing exposure across design, testing and operations.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define project requirements and design mechanical systems, vehicle interfaces, structures, mechanisms and fluid systems.
• Create 2D and 3D models, schematics, P&IDs, process diagrams and bills of materials using CAD tools.
• Perform design trade studies, risk assessments, hazard analyses and FMEAs to ensure compliance with engineering standards.
• Work with vendors and production teams to optimise designs for manufacturability.
• Develop and execute component‑ and system‑level test plans, maintain test equipment and analyse post‑test/flight data.
• Support installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and launch operations on‑site or remotely.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Mechatronics or CAD Engineering (or equivalent).
• Experience with structural design and industrial equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software for 2D/3D modelling.
• Technical drawing interpretation.
