Graduate Engineer – Water or Geotechnical (Nelson)

About the role

Tonkin + Taylor is seeking enthusiastic recent graduates to join its Nelson office in early 2027. Two graduate positions are available – one in Water Engineering and one in Geotechnical Engineering – offering the chance to work on high‑impact projects that protect communities and the environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support design and analysis of water supply, flood resilience, storm‑water and river management projects across the Nelson‑Tasman region (Water Engineer).
• Conduct ground investigations, landslide risk assessments and geotechnical modelling to support regional growth (Geotechnical Engineer).
• Collaborate with senior engineers and scientists to develop technical solutions for clients.
• Prepare reports, technical documentation and presentations for stakeholders.

Required profile

• Recent graduate or final‑year student with a BE(Hons), ME or PhD in Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical or a related engineering discipline.
• Genuine interest in water engineering or geotechnical engineering (or both).
• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Enthusiasm for learning and developing a professional engineering career.

Required skills

• Relevant academic qualification in engineering (as listed above).
