Graduate Engineer – Water and Wastewater

About the role

The Christchurch City Council is seeking a Graduate Engineer to support the planning, design and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure across the city. This entry‑level position offers hands‑on experience in a public‑sector environment, helping to shape a sustainable and resilient water network for a growing community.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical advice to developers and builders to ensure compliance with water and wastewater master plans and infrastructure standards.
• Assess the capacity of existing water and wastewater assets and advise on upgrades needed to accommodate future growth.
• Assist in the preparation of reports, calculations and design documentation for water‑related projects.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver infrastructure solutions on schedule.

Required profile

• Engineering degree in Civil Engineering or Natural Resources Engineering.
• Strong interest in hydraulics, water and wastewater planning, and sustainable infrastructure.
• Ability to analyse technical problems, manage time effectively and meet project milestones.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
