Freelance PHP Web Developer (Remote)

About the role

This freelance position focuses on maintaining and enhancing a membership‑based website for a global community of bonsai enthusiasts. You will work remotely with an editor, brand manager, IT services, and a volunteer Board of Directors to keep the platform robust, user‑friendly, and secure.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and update the PHP‑based website, ensuring optimal performance and security.
• Implement new features and enhancements requested by stakeholders.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to user accounts, subscriptions, and forum functionality.
• Collaborate with the editor, brand manager, and IT services to align updates with organizational goals.
• Provide technical support and documentation for ongoing website operations.
• Ensure cross‑browser and device compatibility and optimize for accessibility.

Required profile

• Proven experience in PHP web development, especially on membership‑based platforms.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with non‑technical stakeholders.
• Availability to coordinate with teams based in Canada (Winnipeg time zone preferred).
