Financial Controller

About the role

Novotel Queenstown Lakeside is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to lead the finance function of the hotel. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will partner with the executive team to drive financial performance, ensure compliance with New Zealand legislation, and support operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Finance Department and oversee all financial operations.
• Prepare accurate weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and capital expenditure.
• Produce monthly management accounts and owner reports.
• Ensure compliance with New Zealand taxation, financial reporting and statutory obligations.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and banking functions.
• Monitor internal controls and drive continuous process improvements.
• Partner with department heads to improve cost control and financial performance.
• Coordinate annual budgets, external audits and capital projects.
• Build, mentor and develop the finance team.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or Commerce.
• CA/CPA professional qualification or equivalent.
• At least five years of experience in a senior finance role, preferably within hospitality.
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand financial, taxation and employment legislation.
• Proven ability to lead teams and influence operational decisions.

Required skills

• Experience with hotel financial systems and ERP platforms.
• Proficiency in MS Excel.
• Familiarity with SUN Systems.
• Knowledge of Opera PMS.
• Understanding of Purchase Plus or similar procurement systems.
