About the role

We are seeking a commercially astute Financial Controller to lead the finance function of a well‑established organisation with a significant property portfolio and diverse commercial operations. Reporting to the General Manager, you will provide financial leadership across multiple entities, supporting governance, investment decisions, property performance and sustainable growth.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the finance function, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and year‑end processes.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
  • Oversee cashflow, financial controls, compliance and audit requirements.
  • Provide financial oversight and analysis across a significant property portfolio.
  • Support investment decisions, property developments and business opportunities through commercial analysis.
  • Deliver financial reporting across hospitality, tourism and commercial operations.
  • Lead the annual budgeting and long‑term financial planning processes.
  • Develop and maintain strong governance reporting for senior leadership and trustees.
  • Mentor and develop the finance team while fostering a collaborative culture.
  • Build effective relationships with external advisors, auditors, banks and other key stakeholders.

Required profile

  • Experienced finance leader comfortable with both strategic and hands‑on financial management.
  • CA, CPA or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or senior finance leadership role.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to provide strategic financial advice.
  • Experience managing teams and developing high‑performing finance functions.
  • Experience within property, investment, asset management or complex commercial environments (highly regarded).
  • Understanding of tikanga Māori and experience working with Māori organisations, trusts or iwi entities (advantageous).

Required skills

  • Advanced Excel.
  • Financial systems capability.
