Financial Controller

About the role

Macdonald Steel is seeking a senior‑level Financial Controller to partner directly with the Director and leadership team. This role sits at the heart of the business, driving financial control, reporting and strategic insight in a fast‑moving steel distribution environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead management reporting, forecasting, treasury and tax compliance.
• Provide commercial analysis for new product lines and investment decisions.
• Conduct costing and margin analysis across the business.
• Drive systems and process improvements, including NetSuite development.
• Support strategic initiatives and ad‑hoc projects from senior leadership.
• Act as a trusted financial sounding board and business partner.
• Manage and develop a small finance team while remaining hands‑on where needed.

Required profile

• CA qualification (or equivalent) with a solid foundation from a Big 4 or reputable second‑tier firm.
• Hands‑on commercial experience post‑qualification.
• Strong grounding in financial reporting, tax and core accounting principles.
• Commercial acumen and confidence communicating with senior stakeholders.
• Comfortable working in a close‑knit, smaller team environment.
