Financial Controller – Christchurch CBD

About the role

Workride is looking for a hands‑on Financial Controller to lead its finance function in Christchurch. You will be responsible for the full finance engine that supports the company’s fast‑growing bike‑benefit platform, reporting directly to a co‑founder.

Key responsibilities

• Own the month‑end close, ensuring reconciliations, balance‑sheet integrity and proper payment authorisation.
• Produce monthly management accounts with variance commentary for founders and shareholders.
• Work with external accountants to prepare annual accounts and ready the business for NZ GAAP reporting and audit.
• Maintain and update the founders’ financial model on a quarterly basis.
• Manage tax compliance (PAYE, GST, income tax) in coordination with external tax advisors.
• Deliver covenant reporting under the company’s lending agreement on schedule.
• Handle insurance reporting, claim settlement and eligibility checks.
• Oversee daily cash and float management, applying treasury policies as the programme scales.
• Respond to edge‑case financial requests, receivables, and process‑building initiatives.

Required profile

• Proactive, hands‑on attitude with willingness to perform manual tasks while building automated solutions.
• Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate closely with founders and cross‑functional teams.
• Experience in a high‑growth environment, preferably in fintech or employee‑benefit services.

Required skills

• Knowledge of NZ GAAP and audit preparation.
• Familiarity with tax compliance in New Zealand (PAYE, GST, income tax).
• Experience in covenant and insurance reporting.
• Cash‑flow and treasury management expertise.
