Financial Analyst

About the role

The Finance Business Partnering team at the New Zealand Transport Agency is looking for a Financial Analyst to join a new product‑volume focused unit. Based in Wellington, you will support operational and strategic decisions by delivering high‑quality financial analysis, reporting and modelling across revenue streams and cost drivers.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse product volumes, revenue streams and cost drivers to identify trends and anomalies.
• Prepare management reports, dashboards and performance insights for senior finance and business leaders.
• Develop and maintain financial models, including variance and scenario analysis.
• Support forecasting, planning and investment decisions with clear financial and non‑financial insights.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of financial processes, reporting tools and analytical approaches.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification in finance, accounting, economics or a related field.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to communicate findings clearly.
• Collaborative, team‑oriented attitude and good stakeholder engagement skills.
• Progression toward CA or equivalent is advantageous but not essential.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Experience with ERP systems.
• Familiarity with Business Intelligence (BI) tools.
• Financial analysis and modelling capability, including variance and scenario analysis.
