Events Assistant

About the role
The Events Assistant will support the Events and Security Manager in preparing the school’s grounds and facilities for a variety of events, from assemblies and sports days to concerts, ceremonies and community functions. This hands‑on role is ideal for someone who enjoys physical work, takes pride in detail, and thrives in a courteous, professional school environment.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with set‑up and dismantling of event equipment, furniture, signage, marquees and barriers before and after each event.
- Prepare indoor and outdoor venues to a high standard, ensuring readiness well before guest arrival.
- Support pack‑down, storage and maintenance of equipment for future use.
- Manage parking and vehicle access, direct traffic flow and pedestrian movement to keep events safe and orderly.
- Monitor entry points, guide visitors, contractors and vehicles, and oversee crowd density.
- Provide friendly on‑site assistance, give directions, help with seating and facilities, and respond to incidents according to procedures.
- Assist with emergency procedures such as evacuations, lockdowns and fire drills.
- Carry out routine checks of event areas, identify hazards early and follow health‑and‑safety plans.
- Support internal logistics such as mail and package delivery across the campus.
Required profile
- Previous experience in event set‑up, pack‑down or operations, preferably in a school, not‑for‑profit or community setting.
- Practical, can‑do attitude with willingness to perform physical work.
- Good judgement, calm and professional demeanor appropriate for a school environment.
- Strong communication and customer‑service focus.
- Confidence directing traffic and managing vehicle and pedestrian flow.
- Physical fitness to lift, carry and remain on feet for extended periods.
- Clean criminal record (required).
- First‑aid or emergency response training and a valid security licence are advantageous.
- Reliability and flexibility to work early mornings, evenings and occasional shifts.
