Events Advisor – Community & Council Events

About the role

The Ashburton District Council is seeking an enthusiastic Events Advisor to lead the planning, promotion and delivery of both community‑run and council‑organised events across the district. You will act as the primary support for local groups, helping them turn ideas into vibrant festivals, cultural celebrations, sport and arts events.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, facilitate and manage a diverse portfolio of community events.
• Take ownership of four flagship council‑led events each year, overseeing planning, sponsorship, promotion and on‑site delivery.
• Collaborate closely with the Economic Development team and other council departments to ensure events align with regional growth objectives.
• Provide administrative, compliance and reporting support for all events.
• Engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including sponsors, community groups and volunteers.

• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Flexibility to work evenings or weekends when events occur.
