Estimating Manager – Civil Infrastructure Projects

About the role

Utilities Infrastructure NZ is seeking an Estimating Manager to support civil infrastructure projects from planning through completion. This full‑time, on‑site position is based at the company’s headquarters and involves hands‑on work with pipeline installation, trenchless techniques, hydro excavation, and PE welding.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the installation of water, wastewater and stormwater pipelines according to project specifications.
• Support trenchless operations such as directional drilling, pipe jacking and pipe bursting.
• Operate or supervise hydro excavation and PE welding activities on site.
• Maintain work sites to high safety and environmental standards.
• Collaborate with supervisors, engineers and field crews to ensure quality and efficiency.
• Prepare basic documentation, progress reports and participate in toolbox meetings.

Required profile

• Experience or strong interest in civil construction, utilities or infrastructure projects, especially in water‑related environments.
• Familiarity with pipeline installation, trenchless methods, hydro excavation or PE welding.
• Excellent teamwork, communication and a proactive, reliable attitude.
• Valid New Zealand work visa and at least ten years of residence in New Zealand.
• Fluent English language skills.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office programs.
• Knowledge of pipeline installation techniques.
• Understanding of trenchless methods (directional drilling, pipe jacking, pipe bursting).
• Experience with hydro excavation equipment.
• Basic competency in PE welding processes.
