Enterprise Cloud Engineer

About the role

The Department of Conservation (DOC) is looking for an Enterprise Cloud Engineer to design, run and optimise its modern cloud platform. This role supports a range of services from conservation tools to frontline operations, helping protect New Zealand's natural environment.

Key responsibilities

• Own and evolve DOC’s cloud platforms across AWS and Microsoft Azure, ensuring security, scalability and cost‑efficiency.
• Design, plan and implement modern cloud architectures that can scale with demand.
• Automate infrastructure using Terraform, Typescript and PowerShell.
• Support and enhance AI‑enabled services that improve operational effectiveness.
• Drive cloud‑first transformation, including the retirement of legacy systems.
• Optimise performance and manage cloud spend.
• Maintain strong security, compliance and monitoring practices.

Required profile

• Hands‑on engineer who thrives in complex environments and enjoys continuous improvement.
• Strong experience with both AWS and Microsoft Azure.
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals.
• Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code and DevOps practices.
• Proficiency in scripting with Terraform, Typescript and PowerShell.
• Passion for automation, optimisation and innovation.
