Engineering Geologist – Transport & Water (Level 4)

About the role

Join a leading engineering consultancy to deliver ground investigations and practical geological advice for transport and water infrastructure across Canterbury and New Zealand. This field‑focused role offers real ownership of projects while providing senior support to develop your interpretive skills.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise site investigations including geotechnical drilling, cone penetration testing, test pits and detailed mapping.
• Manage laboratory schedules, sample custody and ensure AGS‑compliant data handling.
• Develop engineering geological models and prepare reports, including basic liquefaction assessments, settlement checks and slope data preparation.
• Support earthworks design, construction monitoring and provide technical input to contractors and clients.
• Communicate findings clearly to multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Degree in Geology or Engineering Geology.
• 2–5 years of experience in ground investigations, soil and rock logging, and QA of factual outputs.
• Familiarity with Canterbury/Christchurch regional geology or strong ability to understand local conditions.
• NZ licence and a solid health, safety and environment mindset.

Required skills

• Proficiency with GIS applications.
• Experience using LeapFrog, Rocscience and gINT/OpenGround (or similar software).
