Engineering Foreman – Lead Fabrication Team

About the role

HDPS Engineering is seeking an experienced Engineering Foreman to lead a small workshop team in Christchurch. This hands‑on leadership role splits time between supervising staff and actively performing fabrication, repairs, and truck fit‑outs.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and mentor a small team of tradespeople.
• Supervise daily workshop activities, ensuring safety and quality standards.
• Perform fabrication, repairs, modifications and fit‑outs for trucks and trailers.
• Prepare new trucks, install turntables, chrome exhausts, guards and other accessories.
• Build custom toolboxes and stainless‑steel components.
• Execute body swaps, structural modifications, crack repairs, gusseting and deck repairs.
• Carry out LT400‑certified welding work on steel, aluminium and stainless steel.
• Undertake general engineering and fabrication projects across transport equipment.

Required profile

• Highly skilled tradesperson with a practical, can‑do attitude.
• Strong leadership ability, comfortable leading from the front.
• Commitment to high workmanship standards, safety and on‑time delivery.

Required skills

• Current LT400 Welding Certification (or equivalent).
• Experience in light to medium fabrication.
• High‑standard steel MIG welding.
• High‑standard aluminium MIG welding.
• High‑standard stainless‑steel and aluminium TIG welding.
• Proficiency operating a press brake.
