Early Intervention Teacher

About the role

The Early Intervention Teacher position is a permanent part‑time role based in the Ministry’s Maungawhau (Mount Eden) office. You will join the regional Learning Support team and help ensure children with additional learning needs receive high‑quality, equitable education.

Key responsibilities

• Provide learning support aligned with the Ministry’s He Pikorua framework, Te Whāriki curriculum and early childhood standards.
• Build the capability of parents, teachers and whānau to support children’s learning.
• Collaborate with families to plan, implement and monitor individual intervention plans.
• Support transition points such as entry into early childhood education and school.
• Work within a trans‑disciplinary team to address complex learning needs.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood) and full teacher registration.
• Post‑graduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Early Intervention, or commitment to obtain it within four years.
• Several years of teaching experience with strong knowledge of child development, learning and behaviour.
• Understanding of diverse needs and disabilities in early childhood and family contexts.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with learners, families and teachers.
• Ability to apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga.
• Full driver’s licence.
• NZ citizenship, residency or a valid work visa.
• Willingness to adhere to Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
