Early Intervention Teacher

About the role

The Early Intervention Teacher will join the Learning Support team in Christchurch, providing high‑quality learning support aligned with the Ministry’s practice framework and early childhood curriculum. You will work closely with families, teachers and whānau to plan and monitor intervention strategies that promote equitable outcomes for children.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver learning support consistent with He Pikorua principles, Te Whāriki strands and goals.
• Build capability of parents, teachers and whānau to support children’s learning.
• Assess family needs, co‑create and monitor intervention plans.
• Facilitate transitions into early childhood education and school.
• Collaborate within a trans‑disciplinary team for children with complex needs.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood) and full teacher registration.
• Post‑graduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Early Intervention (or ability to obtain within four years).
• Several years of teaching experience with strong knowledge of child development, learning and behaviour.
• Understanding of diverse needs and disabilities in early childhood settings.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with learners, families and teachers.
• Commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata‑whenuatanga.
• Valid driver’s licence and adherence to Public Service Standards.
