Early Childhood Educator (Kaiako) – Kōhanga Reo (Full‑time)

About the role
We are looking for a passionate and fluent Kaiako to join Hineteiwaiwa Kōhanga Reo at the University of Auckland. This full‑time, permanent position involves working with children aged 7 months to 6 years in a mixed‑age, Māori‑immersive environment.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver daily programmes using te reo Māori and kaupapa Māori principles.
- Build authentic relationships with tamariki, whānau and colleagues.
- Apply the Te Whāriki curriculum and current early childhood education theory.
- Maintain exceptional teacher‑to‑child ratios and ensure a safe, nurturing learning environment.
- Collaborate with the team to continuously improve practice and support professional growth.
Required profile
- Qualified early childhood educator (or primary) with current New Zealand teacher registration.
- Demonstrated fluency in te reo Māori and strong understanding of tikanga Māori.
- Experience working in a fully immersed kaupapa Māori setting.
- Commitment to fostering children’s identity, language and cultural confidence.
