Driver Operator – Road Construction & Maintenance

About the role

Join Downer’s Transport and Infrastructure team in Taumarunui as a Driver Operator. You will work alongside road construction and maintenance crews, operating Class 5 vehicles and plant equipment to support daily operational activities across the network.

Key responsibilities

• Operate Class 5 trucks, trailers and plant machinery safely and efficiently.
• Assist crews with road construction, maintenance and repair tasks.
• Carry out equipment inspections, complete required documentation and report findings.
• Maintain a clean, safe and professional presentation of all plant and vehicle assets.
• Support a strong safety and environmental culture on site.

Required profile

• Full Class 5 Driver Licence.
• Proven ability to operate heavy vehicles and plant equipment safely.
• Commitment to health, safety, environmental and Zero Harm practices.
• Accurate record‑keeping and reporting experience, preferably using Actuate or similar systems.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
