Drilling Operator

About the role

SouthDrill is seeking a Drilling Operator to join its Southland and Otago team. The position offers full‑time hours with the possibility of an apprenticeship and long‑term career development in a local, family‑owned environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate drilling and piling equipment on a variety of projects across Southland and Otago.
• Set up, run and maintain machines such as DR24 Dual Rotary and Sonic/Diamond drilling rigs.
• Follow health, safety and drug‑free policies, including pre‑employment testing.
• Transport equipment and personnel as required, holding a valid Class 2 driver’s licence.
• Collaborate with crew members while also working independently to meet project targets.

Required profile

• Mechanically minded and physically fit.
• Reliable, drug‑free and able to work hard.
• Previous drilling experience at driller level (any drilling background considered).
• Minimum Class 2 driver’s licence.
• Willingness to learn and undertake training or apprenticeship.

Required skills

• Operation of DR24 Dual Rotary drilling rigs.
• Experience with Sonic or Diamond drilling techniques (advantageous).
