Digital Lead (Contract) – Wellington

About the role

The client is seeking a Digital Lead on a contract basis to manage a cross‑functional digital team, oversee transitional service agreements and establish governance frameworks. The role is based in Wellington and runs until December 2026 with a possible extension.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all digital initiatives and workstreams up to the launch of the new entity.
• Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary digital team.
• Oversee transition agreements with the parent organisation and related digital teams.
• Develop and execute a transition‑out schedule to achieve operational independence.
• Establish and maintain clear digital governance frameworks.
• Provide strategic digital updates and reports directly to the Board of Directors and senior executives.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a programme lead or manager in complex environments.
• Ability to lead technical delivery teams.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• High attention to detail with a pragmatic, delivery‑focused mindset.
• Experience with digital systems in the public sector; experience in central agencies or Crown entities is desirable.
