Designer – Roads & Highways

About the role

SMEC is seeking a motivated Designer – Roads & Highways to support transport infrastructure projects across New Zealand. The role offers the chance to work within a multidisciplinary team, solving complex design challenges and contributing to high‑quality engineering outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Produce high‑quality road and highway design deliverables that meet SMEC quality standards and client requirements.
• Prepare drawings, 3‑D models and technical documentation using 12d and AutoCAD.
• Contribute to design reports, peer reviews and technical documentation.
• Ensure compliance with relevant New Zealand standards, client specifications and SMEC procedures.
• Collaborate with engineers, planners and other specialists to achieve coordinated project outcomes.

Required profile

• Motivated designer with a strong interest in transport infrastructure.
• Enjoys problem‑solving, collaboration and working in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Committed to continuous development of technical expertise.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 12d design software.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD for drafting and modelling.
