Design Manager

About the role

ACCIONA is seeking a Design Manager to lead the development and delivery of concept designs for the Northland Corridor Warkworth to Te Hana – Ara Tūhono project, one of New Zealand’s most significant transport infrastructure initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, you will ensure designs meet project goals for time, cost, safety, constructability and quality.

Key responsibilities

• Directly develop and deliver concept designs aligned with tender and project objectives.
• Control design scope, budget and programme, and manage value‑engineering opportunities.
• Oversee consultant agreements, monitor commercial performance and coordinate design changes.
• Identify design gaps and risks, escalating them to stakeholders as needed.
• Engage clients and authorities to secure design approvals.
• Champion safety and constructability throughout the design process.

Required profile

• Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management.
• Proven experience delivering complex design‑and‑construct (D&C) projects.
• Track record of managing multidisciplinary design teams.
• Strong understanding of design management and construction methods.
