Design Engineer – UPS Solutions

About the role

The Design Engineer UPS will support the Helios sales team and customers by accurately scoping, sizing and specifying Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and battery solutions, primarily using Riello products. This position bridges pre‑sales technical support with solution design, ensuring that customer requirements are translated into cost‑effective, reliable configurations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance to sales, consultants, contractors and end‑customers during enquiry, quotation and proposal phases.
• Interpret customer requirements (load profile, runtime, redundancy, environment, growth headroom) and perform load, runtime and battery sizing calculations.
• Prepare professional quotation and proposal documents, including technical narratives, single‑line diagrams (SLDs) and configuration summaries.
• Identify and recommend value‑add options such as monitoring cards, maintenance contracts, N+1 redundancy and battery replacement strategies.
• Act as the technical escalation point for field sales and service teams on UPS and battery configuration questions.
• Liaise with Riello and other OEM technical teams on specifications, availability and non‑standard configurations.
• Contribute to a standard UPS/battery solutions catalogue and sizing tools.
• Partner with the AI SPINE team to design and test AI‑enabled tools that automate requirement‑gathering, sizing and proposal generation.
• Support handover of won opportunities to project delivery, ensuring clear documentation of the specified solution.

• Detail‑oriented and systematic, able to work under time pressure.
• Strong communication skills to translate technical detail into customer‑facing language.
• Commercially minded with an understanding of how technical specifications impact pricing.
