Design Engineer – Power Systems

About the role

Terra Cat is seeking a Design Engineer to join its Power Systems team and contribute to high‑profile projects such as major data‑centre developments across New Zealand. You will work alongside experienced engineers, delivering technical solutions from concept through to commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Develop electrical, mechanical and control system designs for generator and power‑infrastructure projects.
• Produce and review engineering documentation, specifications and technical deliverables.
• Provide technical advice during tender and design‑build processes, including scope reviews and risk assessments.
• Support project delivery through design reviews, site assistance, commissioning activities and resolution of engineering challenges.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure solutions are robust, compliant and fit for purpose.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical, Mechanical or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience in power systems, power generation or related engineering environments.
• Understanding of tender requirements, design‑build processes, legislation and commercial considerations.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, project and customer teams.
