Deputy Team Leader – Water Services

About the role

The Deputy Team Leader Water supports the Team Leader in delivering safe, reliable and high‑quality drinking water services across the Wellington region. This full‑time, hands‑on position combines field leadership with operational expertise, offering a pathway to senior management within critical infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor water crews on‑site, providing guidance, training and support.
• Coordinate planned and reactive maintenance to meet service delivery targets.
• Support team scheduling, resource planning and operational decisions in the Team Leader’s absence.
• Promote health, safety and environmental standards through site leadership and quality audits.
• Respond to complex water supply issues and assist with emergency and incident response.

Required profile

• Full New Zealand Class 1 and Class 2 driver’s licences.
• NZ Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Level 4) or equivalent.
• Proven experience operating and maintaining water supply infrastructure.
• Strong leadership, coaching and team development capability.
• Good knowledge of health and safety practices and digital work‑management systems.
