Dental House Surgeon – Full‑time Fixed‑term Position

About the role

The Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Otago is seeking three Dental House Surgeons for a one‑year fixed‑term appointment starting 5 January 2027. This full‑time role is designed for recent dental graduates who wish to develop hospital‑based dental skills within a combined academic and clinical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide acute and elective dental care to patients in Dunedin Hospital and the Faculty of Dentistry.
• Assist and participate in oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures.
• Collaborate with dental specialists and medical consultants across multidisciplinary teams.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and adhere to professional standards.
• Contribute to the teaching and learning environment where appropriate.

Required profile

• Recent graduate with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) or equivalent.
• Registered dentist in New Zealand with a current Annual Practicing Certificate and Professional Indemnity cover.
• Strong organisational, communication and teamwork abilities.
• Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with diverse patient groups.
