DC Team Manager – Inbound/Outbound Operations

About the role

NZ Safety Blackwoods is seeking a DC Team Manager to lead either the inbound or outbound operations at its Wiri distribution centre. Reporting to the Distribution Centre Manager, you will be responsible for a team of 18‑20 operators and two supervisors, ensuring safe, accurate and efficient stock flow while driving performance against KPIs.

Key responsibilities

• Lead daily inbound or outbound activities, allocating tasks to meet output targets and KPI standards.
• Promote a safety‑first culture, enforce HSE standards and manage incident processes.
• Coach, support and develop operators, maintaining clear performance expectations.
• Maintain accuracy of stock movement, inventory integrity and inbound/outbound records.
• Monitor productivity, resolve issues promptly and lead continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Develop rosters, manage staffing levels and ensure optimal resource utilisation.
• Oversee housekeeping, equipment upkeep and preventive maintenance within the DC.
• Assist with recruitment, induction and training of new team members.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of distribution centre or operational experience at a team‑leader or manager level.
• Hands‑on, people‑first leadership style with proven coaching ability.
• Strong focus on safety, accuracy and operational performance.
• Experience managing larger teams in high‑volume, complex environments.
• Relevant warehousing qualification preferred but not essential.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
• Experience using scanner technology.
• Competence in Microsoft Office applications.
