Data Engineer – SQL, Power BI & Azure Synapse

About the role

We are embarking on a technology transformation and need a Data Engineer to support CIP projects, data analysis, migrations and Business Intelligence solutions across the organisation. This permanent, full‑time role is based at our Head Office in Tauranga and reports to the Data Architect Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver timely data enhancements, ensuring high data quality and accuracy.
• Collaborate with project teams and vendors to migrate data from legacy systems to new platforms.
• Provide technical support for reporting and data queries, creating value‑adding solutions for the business and its clients.
• Develop and maintain enhancements for the CIP Data Platform (Synapse) and BI systems.
• Perform ongoing maintenance of the data platform and BI tools to improve efficiency and reduce operational risk.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2008‑2019) and Azure SQL.
• Strong background in BI reporting using SSRS and Power BI (including DAX).
• Proven expertise in data integration with SSIS and SQL Agent jobs.
• Experience modelling and engineering data in Synapse Data Lake or Data Warehouse environments.
• Excellent time‑management, problem‑solving and stakeholder‑influence skills.
