Data Engineer

About the role

Join LIC's Data Platform team within the Digital Engineering group and help shape the future of data across the organisation. You will work alongside Data Engineers and a Cloud Data Architect to modernise the data platform, improve accessibility and enable self‑service capabilities for data consumers.

Key responsibilities

• Enhance data engineering practices including governance, cataloguing, modern ELT, streaming, security, automation and data sharing.
• Champion high‑quality engineering standards and consistent delivery practices.
• Collaborate, coach and share knowledge to support LIC's Data Practice.
• Work with technology teams to increase automation and improve end‑to‑end data delivery.
• Develop a strong understanding of LIC's products, systems and technology roadmap.
• Ensure data solutions align with business objectives and product strategies.
• Drive innovation, continuous improvement and stay current with emerging data trends.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification.
• At least 2 years of experience in data engineering or a similar role.
• Experience with data governance and catalogue tools.
• Understanding of data architecture, management and technology standards.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies.

Required skills

• Snowflake or other large‑scale data platforms.
• SQL and ETL/ELT development.
• Python programming.
• AWS cloud services.
• dbt.
• Debezium or similar change‑data‑capture tools.
• Streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka).
