Data Engineer

About the role

Join the Data function of The Warehouse Group and help design, implement and maintain the data infrastructure that powers business intelligence and analytics across New Zealand’s largest retail operation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes.
• Implement and optimise data models for performance and scalability.
• Ensure data quality, consistency and security across all systems.
• Develop and maintain documentation for data processes and architectures.
• Continuously improve data infrastructure to meet evolving business needs.
• Troubleshoot and resolve data‑related issues promptly.
• Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to understand requirements and deliver efficient solutions.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience in data engineering or a similar role.
• Strong ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Growth mindset and collaborative attitude.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Shell/Bash scripting.
• Advanced SQL development.
• Snowflake platform expertise.
• dbt for data transformation.
• Azure cloud services.
• ETL/ELT design and implementation.
• Data warehousing and dimensional modelling.
• CI/CD and DevOps practices.
• Git/Azure DevOps source control.
• Airflow or similar orchestration tools.
