Data Engineer

About the role

Smartly, a Datacom FinTech company, is looking for a hands‑on Data Engineer to build, maintain and improve the data pipelines that power analytics and decision‑making across the business. You will work closely with Data Science, Analytics, Product and Engineering teams to ensure data is reliable, well‑structured and easy to use.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise data pipelines using SQL and Python to ingest, transform and serve data from core product systems and third‑party sources.
• Create and maintain analytical datasets for reporting, dashboards, experimentation and data‑science use cases.
• Collaborate with analysts and data scientists to translate requirements into reusable data assets.
• Monitor pipeline health, troubleshoot data‑quality issues and implement observability practices.
• Contribute to data documentation, testing and continuous‑integration/continuous‑deployment (CI/CD) workflows.
• Support the evolution of Smartly’s data tooling and development practices in a cloud environment.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering or a similar role.
• Strong SQL skills with experience writing complex, performant queries.
• Proficient in Python for data transformation, automation and pipeline development.
• Experience using Git or similar version‑control systems in a team setting.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices, automated testing and deployment workflows.
• Comfortable working in cloud‑based data environments.
