Data Engineer - Consultant

About the role

Fusion5 is seeking a Data Engineer to join its New Zealand Data & Analytics team, working on client engagements across Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch. The role involves end‑to‑end delivery of modern data platforms using Microsoft Fabric, Azure and Databricks, while providing consulting expertise to ambitious organisations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain data ingestion, transformation, modelling and warehousing pipelines on Fabric, Azure (ADF, ADLS, Synapse) and Databricks.
• Develop Power BI reports and semantic models where required.
• Apply best‑fit tools for each client, avoiding a one‑size‑fits‑all approach.
• Embed data quality, security and governance practices into all deliverables.
• Support data migration projects, including CRM and ERP migrations.
• Provide post‑go‑live support alongside the Managed Services team.
• Leverage AI to improve delivery speed and quality.
• Contribute to team standards, reusable assets and mentor junior members.

Required profile

• 3–6 years of hands‑on data engineering experience.
• Proven ability to own delivery workstreams with limited supervision.
• Strong focus on quality, collaboration and continuous learning.
