Data Analyst – Energy Modelling

About the role
Join the Data Service Delivery unit at MBIE as a Data Analyst supporting the energy modelling programme. You will work with senior analysts to analyse future energy supply and demand scenarios, produce evidence for policy development, and help monitor policy outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in the delivery of the Markets Domain’s energy modelling work, including data collection, cleaning and analysis.
- Produce official statistics and projections for New Zealand’s energy sector.
- Support reporting obligations to international agencies.
- Communicate analytical results to internal and external stakeholders in a clear, accessible manner.
- Contribute ideas to keep modelling tools and methodologies up‑to‑date.
Required profile
- Degree in econometrics, applied economics, statistics, data science or a related quantitative discipline.
- Early‑career or junior‑level experience in data analysis or statistical modelling.
- Strong interest in the energy sector and policy analysis.
Required skills
- Proficiency in at least one statistical programming language, preferably R.
