Cyber Security Engineer – Cloud & Ops (Mid‑Level)

About the role

We are seeking an intermediate Cyber Security Engineer to join a leading technology organisation that operates New Zealand's broadband networks. This permanent position offers exposure across cloud infrastructure, network security and security operations, allowing you to protect critical platforms while learning from senior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor, investigate and respond to security incidents, threats and vulnerabilities.
• Design, implement and improve security controls for cloud, network, endpoint and ecosystem environments.
• Lead vulnerability management activities and collaborate with engineering teams to prioritize remediation.
• Maintain, support and optimise security platforms such as Microsoft Sentinel, Defender suite, enterprise firewalls and email gateways.
• Create clear security procedures, baselines and documentation to promote secure development lifecycles.

Required profile

• Valid New Zealand work rights.
• Approximately 3+ years of experience in a Security Engineer, SOC Analyst or Security Operations role.
• Strong practical knowledge of Microsoft Sentinel (SIEM/KQL), Defender Suite and Entra ID/Azure AD.
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting enterprise firewalls (Fortinet or Palo Alto preferred).
• Ability to explain security risks to non‑technical stakeholders and provide constructive feedback under pressure.
