Cyber Security Engineer – Auckland or Wellington

About the role

As a Cyber Security Engineer you will sit on the front line of NZ Post’s cyber defence, protecting the systems and information that keep New Zealand connected. You will design, implement and continuously improve security controls across a complex, multi‑cloud environment while collaborating with internal teams and external vendors.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and enhance cyber security controls and platforms.
• Monitor and optimise security tooling to ensure effectiveness and resilience.
• Support incident response, investigations and root‑cause analysis.
• Lead small‑ to medium‑sized security projects and tool deployments.
• Provide technical guidance throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Work with vendors and partners to deliver strong security outcomes.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience solving complex security problems in diverse technology landscapes.
• Strong understanding of internet and enterprise technologies and how they communicate.
• Ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders and communicate clearly.
• Proactive, self‑driven attitude with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Calm under pressure and able to take ownership of security initiatives.

Required skills

• DNS, proxies, web and email services.
• Firewalls, web applications and VPN access patterns.
• Microsoft security stack and privileged access management.
• Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools.
• Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions.
