Customer Service Assistant – Museum Front‑of‑House

About the role

Join Hawkes Bay Museum as a Customer Service Assistant and become the face of the visitor experience. You will work at the front of house, supporting retail, tours, events and volunteers while helping the museum run smoothly and inspire every guest.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver welcoming, efficient and knowledgeable service to all visitors, tour groups and event attendees.
• Support retail sales, admissions, volunteer coordination and public programmes, maintaining high standards.
• Engage with schools, community groups and tourists, sharing information about exhibitions and local attractions.
• Contribute to a collaborative team environment and help improve systems, processes and visitor experiences.
• Assist with the Friends programme, volunteer activities and broader community engagement initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a public‑facing customer service role.
• Strong communicator with a calm, solutions‑focused approach.
• Highly organised, able to manage time effectively and work autonomously while staying connected to the team.
• Flexible, collaborative and committed to a fun, inclusive workplace.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Experience using digital systems for cash handling and ticketing.

What we offer

• Permanent full‑time position (40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday) on site.
• Annual salary between $52,300 and $61,500 NZD (including KiwiSaver).
