Court Security Manager – National Security Operations

About the role

The Ministry of Justice is seeking a Court Security Manager to lead a team of up to 12 security officers across Invercargill, Queenstown and the Gisborne District & High Court. You will ensure a safe, secure environment for the public to access justice while collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, coach and mentor security officers to reach their full potential.
• Oversee day‑to‑day operations in a complex, high‑risk security environment.
• Assess operational risks and make swift, confident decisions.
• Build relationships with diverse people, internal units and external agencies such as NZ Police, Department of Corrections and Te Oranga Tamariki.
• Maintain safe and professional court operations and attend a three‑week residential training in Wellington within the first three months.

Required profile

• Strong leadership capabilities.
• Customer‑service orientation with the ability to de‑escalate conflict.
• Physical fitness to perform full‑contact officer safety techniques.
• Confidence using technology and a clean, full New Zealand driver’s licence.
