Court Registry Officer

About the role

The Court Registry Officer supports the smooth operation of the Nelson District Court. Working within a dedicated team, you will interact with judges, lawyers, and the public to ensure court processes run efficiently and accurately.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and update case files, performing data entry and ensuring information accuracy.
• Assist in court taking, including opening sessions in English and Te Reo Māori, coordinating with the judiciary, and handling courtroom administration.
• Provide front‑line customer service to visitors, callers, and email enquiries, addressing a wide range of court‑related queries.
• Support general administrative duties and adapt to changing legislation and procedural updates.

Required profile

• Resilient and able to handle sensitive cases and high‑volume workloads.
• Detail‑oriented with strong observational skills.
• Self‑aware, mature and positive when dealing with diverse customers.
• Capable of multitasking and shifting quickly between repetitive and priority tasks.
• Eager to learn and respond to feedback on evolving court processes.
• Excellent communicator with good English and confident Te Reo Māori pronunciation; comfortable using audio‑visual equipment.
