Control Systems Engineer

About the role

Ventia is seeking an experienced Control Systems Engineer to join its Kaikohe team. This permanent, full‑time position offers a supportive, collaborative environment where you will lead upgrades, optimisation projects and digital innovation for water and wastewater networks.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain SCADA, telemetry and control systems for treatment plants, pump stations, reservoirs and network assets.
• Support and enhance automation and monitoring across the water and wastewater network.
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, IT/OT and field services to deliver reliable automation solutions.
• Diagnose, fault‑find and resolve complex issues on ageing or legacy equipment while ensuring safety and continuity of operations.
• Plan and execute modifications, upgrades and integration of new systems into live installations.
• Maintain strong focus on risk management, quality and operational clarity.

Required profile

• Degree‑qualified engineer or NZ‑registered electrician.
• Minimum 5 years experience as a Control Systems Engineer in the water, wastewater or utilities sector.
• Proven experience working on brownfield, operational plants and integrating new technology into existing systems.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical detail into operational clarity.
• Open to overseas candidates with the right experience and skillset.

Required skills

• Allen Bradley PLC (Logix 500, Studio 5000, Linx Classic).
• SCADA systems.
• Telemetry and remote monitoring.
• Water process control, pump control logic, alarms and flow/pressure monitoring.
